My treatment team

I am so incredibly fortunate to have found an amazing team of medical professionals to help me on this journey.

When I’m trying to tackle a problem, I tackle it from all angles. That’s why, when I was first diagnosed, I reached out to get a wide range of perspectives to help me through.

First, I found Dr. Jonathan Bayuk. He was the keynote speaker at the Mast Cell Northeast meeting that I attended in Oct. 2018.

Listening to Dr. Bayuk speak was the first time I really learned that mast cell patients could actually get better.

At that same meeting, I also met nurse practitioner Erin Kolb. Erin was at that same meeting to speak about her own experience using the Dynamic Neural Retraining System to heal from MCAS. I was totally inspired by hearing her story, which led me to try DNRS as well. Erin now works at the same practice as Dr. Bayuk, where she focuses on mast cell patients.

And then somehow, about a month after I attended this support group, I got the phone call I’d been praying for: Dr. Maria Castells had an opening on her waiting list. As the head of the Mastocytosis Center at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, she is really hard to see, and the wait to see her is normally about a year.

However, when I first called her office I begged them to call me if she had an opening- any time, any day– and I would drop everything and come. Turns out my approach paid off, because I actually got that call much sooner than I thought!

I totally love my treatment team, and feel that each practitioner brings something slightly different to the table.

I feel so fortunate that, somehow, I was able to see more than one world-class mast cell practitioner.

That’s a big part of why I’m so dedicated to sharing my story now. I know that not everyone has access to the resources I’ve had access to.

So my goal in running this site is to pay it forward and share what I’ve learned.

  1. Just wow!! I’m currently lying in bed sick as a dog from MCAS. I have been v ill with this condition for 6 yrs but only got a dx 9 mths ago. Currently only on H1 and H2 inhibitors but I’m not improving. Also recently diagnosed with SIBO. No-one understands how unwell I feel on a day to day basis because I look OK externally. I’m starting Dr Guptas Programme which I believe is similar to the programme you undertook. I’m so happy to have found your site because I really feel like giving up. The chronic fatigue, headaches, migraines, feeling like I’m about to collapse and die have taken their toll and I just don’t want to go on. Its been so long since I have felt well that I can’t imagine what it would be like or even believe I can heal from this. I’m so happy for you and your amazing recovery and hope I can get there too. Thank you for taking the time to write this x

    1. So sorry you are going through this Louise, but things can definitely get better! The more you can treat the SIBO, that should actually help too— anytime you can remove an underlying trigger, that can help your mast cells calm down. Wishing you the best of luck with the Gupta method and moving forward!
